I wish Norwegian would succeed, but their business model will never work and has rarely ever worked for anyone else. Its based on taking out mind blowing debt in the hope of selling tickets and extras. Their planes need to be near full capacity to make money on the flight with the majority of passengers buying extras (ie food, drink, luggage etc).
To be honest, I actually think Norwegian would make prices go up if they succeed. We have all seen it happen several times in the past. New company comes in with low prices, grows and grows taking all the customers, forcing other companies to go under and then when they dominate they start increasing prices. Today Norwegian posted huge losses even though ticket sales went up. I would have no issue flying Norwegian short term, but wouldnt be buying tickets for far future flights.

HiFly have about 6x A340-300. I think 2 have no IFE and the others have 'old school' IFE. Large box under each seat that restricts leg room, with limited movies and tv. Think 10 years ago when IFE was new in planes. I would recommend you plane for no IFE and less service on board. When you board an aircraft it usually has plenty of stock on board, but when a rent a plane is used, its provided empty. So only what is loaded on before the flight in available.
Norwegian have no spare planes like other airlines, they need to keep every aircraft in the air. Norwegian had 2 options, cancel flights or lease aircraft. Both would cost them money so they have tried to keep passengers holidays and leased cheap aircraft. Im guessing you would rather they had cancelled the flights so you could go elsewhere. Unfortunately I doubt they will refund as they are providing the service you paid for (LGW to MCO). IFE is classed as a benefit, not essential to the journey. I agree with you, I would rather have a good comfortable flight, than fly basic. Think positive. You still have a flight and within no time you will be in Orlando and forgetting about the flight.

Your comments are interesting because I recently said on here that I wouldn't fly with Norwegian due to the lack of resources should they have an issue with plane or crew because they don't have the back up of the big airlines, as I've read of peoples flights being cancelled at short notice and it taking days to reschedule them, but some people think otherwise, and that their (Norwegian's) back up is even better than some of the big players.
Each to their own, but I for one won't be booking with Norwegian to Florida. |

HiFly have 2 types of backup planes. Great or cheap. The great ones have been purchased cheap from airlines that have gone under and HiFly keep them sparkling as its an investment. The cheap ones are purchased when no one else wants them, so they get a few more years out of a heap of cheap junk. Hifly avoid spending money on these ones.
Airlines like AA would rent the best planes for new 'trial' routes where the airline doesnt want to invest until they have determined if its profitable, so they want nice/best planes. Airlines like Norwegian rent planes to avoid cancelling flights, so want the cheapest plane available to keep costs down (damage limitation). Occasionally like car rental, they get a free upgrade and a great plane arrives.
