Admittedly, the OP can probably get Disney to unlink it and link it to someone else in their party or use it at some other time but, as you say, this requires calling Disney. I wouldn't like to guarantee that they can unlink it. Also, they can't just give the spare Ultimate ticket to a random stranger.

BTW, because it's a 2020 Ultimate ticket it will have to be used in 2020.

The Annual passholder will get a free MagicBand - it comes as part of the Annual Pass.

A 2020 14-day Ultimate ticket costs £450. So, for 7 days, that works out at around $85 per day. If the OP is staying at a moderate resort and getting free QSDP then it would definitely be cheaper to pay out of pocket. A QS meal costs around $20 and snacks are around $5 - so, roughly $50 per day OOP. If they are staying at a deluxe resort and getting the free DDP then it's a bit more borderline. It depends on whether they plan to spend more or less than $55 on the table service meal they would get per day on the DDP. It might be worth it in this case.

Having said all that, if the 4th person is not registered as staying onsite at that Disney hotel then they won't be able to use EMH and other onsite privileges.

Thank you for the comprehensive reply. We’ve decided to go with the AP in December, then book all four of us on free dining in 2020. We will ask Disney to effectively hold the 14 Day Ultimate on his MDE account for a future stay. I’ve read that passes that have expired are not completely void, rather they need “upgrading” cost-wise to the correct date, so we would probably have to pay the difference in cost between a 2020 ticket and 2021 if we wanted to use it then. Failing that maybe we’d need to return in Dec 2020
