Flying out of Miami - Ideas for Beach Stay?

Hi,

Ok, so to cut a long story short, we've had to completely change the end of our trip as Delta decided to cancel our JFK-GLA flight on the way home and we've had to change to fly with BA instead. Due to unbelievably difficult domestic connections, we are flying into Orlando and out of Miami.

Originally, we had planned to fly out of Tampa and stay in Clearwater for 2nts before we left but I don't want to have such a long drive before our flight home so we need to find somewhere else to stay closer to Miami--whilst not actually in Miami...

I was thinking of Key Largo as its not too far. Has anyone ever been there and would you recommend for 2 adults and 2 children (9 & 7)? Alternatively, we were thinking of Fort Lauderdale maybe?

We really just need somewhere with a nice beach to relax on for a couple of days so any other recommendations within a couple of hours of Miami would be appreciated.

TIA

Why not Miami? Just because you've done it before, or do you not like it?
Just asking because Fort Lauderdale isn't vastly different, although its more chilled. We stayed at the Westin on the beach in Fort Lauderdale and it was lovely, would highly reccomend. Wasn't ridiculously expensive either.

Just don’t fancy it really with the kiddies. If DH and I could go on our own and live it up for a couple of nights great but I want something quieter and more chilled out for our last few days.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will look into those 😁

not sure how old your children are but our two loved South Beach. We spent most of our first holiday by the pool or at the beach there for four nights. Hired bikes and walked and cycled along Ocean Drive and DS loved watching all the amazing cars

They’ll be 9 and 7. South Beach good for a chilled beach stay? Which hotel were you in? Sounds really nice.

Ours were a bit older- 11 and 14 first time we went and then went again two years later. We stayed at the Savoy first time-but dated but huge room and hotel backed on to the beach. We literally chilled out for four days before driving up to Orlando. Second time we stayed before chilling out for two weeks on Gulf Coast so explored more. Guess only issue is what else you would do as they can’t be in the sun all day. My two were happy to watch American TV or play on phones in the room for a couple of hours. Do recall supermarkets and restaurants being a bit more expensive that Orlando. Second time we stayed at The Pestana which is a little bit further back from the beach and Ocean Drive. We had breakfast included which was well worth it
