Checking into hotels without credit cards
do you need a credit card for checking into any hotel in SF or Vegas? Hotels are paid for so don’t want to leave my details as we don’t plan to add anything to the room. Also I think I paid my resort fees in cash in Vegas last year, can this still be done?

You will probably need to leave a cash security deposit, you could contact the hotels and ask how much. Credit cards are so ubiquitous in California we saw a beggar with a little credit card reader 😆

Really! That’s mad!
I don’t mind leaving cash as long as I get it back lol I’ll be paying my resort fees in cash but don’t remember leaving any other money last year tho? I just told them no charge to room. I’ll maybe email both hotels to be sure! Thanks.

I would email them. Every hotel we went, the first thing they said was ID and Card. Even the National Park lodges. I’m a big people watcher and I noticed not just on the WC but in NYC in Feb that’s how the Americans do it. They say “checking in” and slide over the card and ID. Incidentally, in NYC our hotel’s policy was $300 cash if not using a card. We used our card and there was a $300 hold until we checked out. I think it depends how many foreign guests they are used to getting as to whether they will accept cash. We splurged on a fancy hotel in LA and they needed a major credit card, period as they say! So long story short, email them and have a copy of what they say incase the receptionist tells you something different when you get there.
And yep unbelievable. He was down in Fisherman’s Wharf with his little card reader and a sign asking for donations. It gave us a good giggle. |

I never use a credit card .. I don’t have one
I use my debit card everywhere . Most hotels now will want a “ hold “ of some kind and how much varies , South Point hold $100 , other hotels hold $50 some in Vegas though want $100 per night We stayed in 7 hotels last month in various places and only one in Williams Arizona didn’t want a hold . |

Thanks that’s great to know, I prefer to leave cash cos at least you get it back straight away rather than wait for it to go back on card.

I lost my CC on a multi stop trip about 10 year ago and when checking into Caesars Palace they took $200 and literally stapled it to our ‘file’. When I checked out they unstapled it and handed it back. Ha

South point will take cash but when you check out they have to wait for house keeping to check the room over first before you get the money back so it can be a long wait
I know a a few other hotels I’ve used have the same policy Which I can understand , no point having a security deposit and giving it back before the room checked over |
