For gas, we were so annoyed by the way British Gas ran our DD (letting us run huge sums in credit and not repaying it) that we now read monthly and send the reading to them. They then take that amount out of our bank account. We were able to use our low tariff on this arrangement. We use gas for heating, water and cooking and we have a 4 bedroom house.
We have never paid more than £90 a month in the winter, and of course considerably less in summer. We keep the heating at 18 degrees.

Regardless of your fuel usage, meter reading etc they can't just take £200 from your bank account without notifying you. That would be against the direct debit agreement.

My thoughts too! Just not what we need right now.
Although to be honest if I owe it I don't mind paying it, it's just really annoying that they can change the prices so drastically, last year we were paying £40 a month and still ended up in credit at the end of the year.

I wouldn't be with any of the big six these days as you will be paying quite a bit over the price you need to be. So painless to swap now it's not worth staying with over priced suppliers.

We would never go back to a ‘big 6’ firm after switching to Bulb. The difference is incredible. We had no end of problems with Scottish Power and BG but everything has been seamless with Bulb.

We have just switched to Bulb, given them our meter reading and Direct debit starts this month. We were with Flow who were useless.

I’d say you were drastically underpaying but they should have warned you - you can’t switch until you pay off a debit I don’t think xx

You can switch, but will be billed for any outstanding charges on final reading.
