That's part of strike negotiating, announce it so the company's customers lose confidence and put pressure on the company to settle.
Choosing the period of the year when business travel is at its lowest and holiday traffic at its highest is no accident. The union knows business travellers on flexible tickets would just use other carriers or reschedule but leisure travellers with fixed flights and prebooked vacations don't have those options. It is so cynical, it stinks .

I’m in the same boat. I have flights from Manchester to Heathrow first so I’m also worried. But what will be will be and I’ll deal with it if and when I have to.

I used to work as Cabin Crew for BA during the last round of strikes for reasons of my own and being a new starter I did not strike. How it went last time was that most long haul flights did operate, crew members down and BA did everything they could to keep the busier (money generating) flights operating.

The strikes went on for almost 3 months straight last time, which makes me nervous for our trip in September. I reckon as its Pilots striking this time, if industrial action goes ahead BA will do something about it fast as they cannot operate without the pilots.
