Would you renew?

My DD is going on a school trip to France on 17-19 Oct 2019 (so before we leave EU). Her passport expires 20 April 2020, so just has 6 months left on it on her return.

Would you renew the passport beforehand, just to be on safe side or will it be ok?

Many thanks as a little confused...

If the passport is still valid for the return journey then there is absolutely no need to renew it.

No. DH will only have 2 months on his when we return. We were going to renew it back in February when all the Brexit stuff was happening (he regularly travels with work), glad we didn’t, saved us 6 months on his passport and an esta.

It depends if the expiry date includes added on months?
It should be ok anyway, but if we left the EU before 31/10 with no deal for any reason (have no idea if this could happen), and those months were extra that were added on, then it could be a problem.
IF we leave the EU with no deal then a UK passport needs to have 6 months validity on it to visit most of Europe, (not months that were added on when issued).
