Looking to get a go pro or the equivalent of for our holiday to the Maldives. Obviously it needs to go in the water but would like itto take good photos too.
Any ideas of what's best to get please.

Best one is Hero 7 Black. More expensive but the stabilisation is amazing, almost as good as a gimble, as is Time warp .

We have just come back from our honeymoon in the maldives - we bought a starter set from amazon with a gopro hero 5 and accessory kit. Purchased a supersuit and floating handle - it was invaluable. We only snorkelled not dived but it was worth the extra to know that if we didn't seal anything properly by accident we wouldn't have a damaged gopro and miss all our underwater photo opportunities. Also highly recommend buying a red filter for underwater shots to make the pics less blue, and more like what you would see underwater with the naked eye! We got some incredible footage of sharks, turtles and rays etc.

I will say that with all the add ons, it cost quite a bit. So glad we went for it though! Hope you have a great hol!

Yeah I've read that about the filters. What island/resort did you go to?

We went to Amari Havodda. It was incredible - I'd love to go back one day! Snorkelling was fantastic with a reef circling the island. How about you, which island/resort?

Hope you have an amazing honeymoon! Don't forget to take your marriage certificate with you. On check in we showed them it and they gave us a free beach bbq, bottle of champagne and upgraded us to the best villa on the island for our last night! Hope you have a wonderful time and good luck finding a gopro!

The GoPro will be great for video, but not so good the pictures as it just doesn’t have anywhere near the functionality that even a smart phone has. We always take out GoPro and a good compact camera (mostly our smart phones of late).

Sony make some really good compacts though, might be worth a look.

I've got an underwater Olympus that takes fab photos above and below water.
Just wanted something that can take video and photos really.
