No it's a perk you get for spending a certain amount of money on your VS credit card.

Taxes apply as per T&Cs at virginatlantic/gb/en...d-flights.html
Edit: That page may not apply actually but you do pay taxes as I used this for our trip in November and taxes are itemised on the receipt. Edited at 04:22 PM. |

Definitely have to pay the taxes. We’ve just done this and it was about £240 I think for economy companion from Manchester.

Yeah you do. The only free part is not paying the 25k miles for the companion.

Mmm what would you do.
2 of us going Sept 2020 We have 53,000 points and a companion flight Can you buy a companion flight on the outward flight then buy return flights using the air miles What's the best way to attack this

I am more familiar with BA but I thought the companion voucher worked the same way.
Assuming it does, you buy one individuals flights with the airmiles and use the companion voucher to get the second person's flights. You don't buy a companion voucher. I don't know how many air miles Virgin flights require, but I would probably save up until I had enough for Upper. You always have to pay taxes for flights, regardless of whether you got the flights by cash, airmiles or companion voucher. |
