Mobile Hotel charges

Hi all,

First time planning and doing West coast trip and was looking for a bit of a heads up really.
Most of the hotels we have booked just one more to book at Santa Monica, however notice on the website it seems alot of the hotels around california put a set amount 'hold' on your card for incidentals etc.
Adding this up over the amount of hotels we are staying at it comes to around 1500 dollars for the whole stay.
As neither of us own a credit card what would you suggest is the best method as it will mean an awful lot of holds on the prepaid cards and as we found out from legoland at Florida it can take about a week for the hold to go back onto the card.
We are taking majority of money on the revolt and fairfx card and thinking it might be wise to use our debit cards for the hold charges as we won't be needing them.
Does this sound like a plan?
Does anyone know if you can ask the hotels not to charge an incidental or is this something they have to do?
Thanks in advance

I've never had a hold placed anywhere because I don't hand a card over .

My hotels are either paid for in advance or I pay in cash when I check in and also any resort charges. Then I tell them to turn off all incidentals and that's it .

And that's in several different hotels in Vegas , California and Arizona .

but never use a pre paid card or debit card if you do hand a card over as the hold can take up to two weeks to drop off .
