Hi
I can't answer the first as although the exchange rate is currently better than it has been, knowing what may happen over the next few months is impossible to say, however I would probably have taken the plunge and booked I can help with the second, the exchange rate today on Revolut is $1.23.49

There are 2 aspects to your question. Firstly, apart from the currency, you seem to be booking for summer 2018 (from your countdown). Why are you booking so early? If you have looked at the 10,000 or so villas that are available and decided that all the others are not good enough and only this one will do, then you need to book before anyone else does or you will lose it - so book early. However, 18 months is a long time and stuff happens. There are threads on here by people who booked early and then have to re-book because the villa is no longer available, e.g. villas are sold. I was looking at the stats from a realtor the other day - in the past 6 months, 60 villas at Reunion were sold, 40 at Windsor Hills, 37 at Regal Palms, 30 at Windsor Palms, 41 at Championsgate, 27 at Legacy Park, 22 at Highlands Reserve, etc. The next 18 months will be similar, so 3 times that number. A lot! Possibly a 1 in 10 chance. That suggests booking late is better.
Secondly, re $/£: you would be paying the deposit now and the balance in 16 months. The price would be frozen at the time you book. Are you worried that you will be locked into a high price because the exchange rate change will subsequently reduce the price? Or are you worried that the exchange rate will go the other way, so it is effectively cheaper now? Either could happen - no-one knows. Your guess is as good as anyone else's. Apart from the Dibb advertising fee, Villa owner's costs are all in $. It is not feasible to change our £ prices every day with fluctuations in the exchange rate, but we do change them if the rate changes too much - otherwise we would be out of pocket. So major rate changes are inevitably passed on. So whether you are paying in £ or $, the same dilemma will apply. Whilst there seems to be a lot of posts on the Dibb about 2018, most of the rest of the world are just getting round to thinking about this year's summer holiday. Therefore, even if you were to wait 12 months, there will still be excellent availability of good villas. It is obviously a personal choice, but I would consider booking just before or just after Christmas would be perfectly adequate. However, as a villa owner, it is in my interests to have guests pay their deposit to me as early as possible, so it is sitting in my bank account earning interest instead of their's! |

Unless you have a Swiss bank account, you won't be getting much interest from a bank!
We are going in August 2018 have booked a villa already, in fact we booked it long before some silly people voted Brexit. It is up to you I would say if it is a great villa and one that gets booked early then go for it. As for what the interest rates will do, it is very unclear, even the experts are split about the future. Personally I think by August 2018 it will be about 1.35 to the $, just and educated forecast. Hopefully interest rates will rise soon, which will help an appreciation in the pound. Matt |
