The work that's currently taking place in the area they're staying in will be finished long before October (mid-end March) and will be better for them as they'll have a new food and drink place.

If the rumoured work starts, then they'll be in the area furthest away so probably wouldn't even notice it was happening.

I wonder if this is why, at the moment, they're only offering pirate rooms on the free nights offer for this year if they are furthest away from the building work. Also on another site I was looking at prices for our dates the other day and again only pirate rooms were available.

When I booked 3 weeks ago for July, I only had the choice of a pirate room.

Throughout the refurbishment, the Trinidad South Village Pool will be unavailable. Currently, this is scheduled to be completed in March. Please keep in mind that all schedules are subject to change without notice, so we suggest you check the website periodically prior to your visit for any updates or changes.

Thanks for posting, so no mention of the big refurb later in the year as I'm presuming this reply relates to the work at the moment adding drink/food options to the Trinidad area.

This is the reply I've just receive, which probably indicates it is going to happen but they've not formally announced it yet.

At this time, Disney has not announced any work to be done at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort after March 2017. However, this can change at anytime. If there will be a scheduled refurbishment/construction, please know that you will receive a letter stating the information and your options. Based on availability, you are able to make changes to your resort reservation. If you booked your reservation with Walt Disney World® directly, please contact the Disney Reservation Center at 407-934-7639 and the cast member will be able to assist you. If you booked your reservation with a Travel Agent, please contact them for further assistance with changing your reservation.
