A vote for Clearwater. Loved the soft sand and stayed in the Hilton on the Beach which was a fantastic destination. Right next to everything and great food at a decent price. I loved it.

The east coast (Atlantic) beaches are nearer, our favourites are Cocoa (the nearest one) and Daytona.

Many people have preferences for the west (Gulf) coast beaches as the sea is calmer. Clearwater is probably the nearest Gulf beach but we like the Sarasota area - AMI, Lido Beach and Siesta Key are our favourites.

We usually head to Cocoa Beach as the parking is good and the big Ron Jon's Surf Shop is good to pick up supplies. I may try Daytona this time though as I've heard good things ...

We have just returned from 3 nights there and agree completely Madeira Beach is lovely.
