AIRA app for the visually impaired.
Has anyone had experience using the AIRA app for visually impaired at Heathrow or Gatwick - I believe it is free of charge within the terminals.
The app has been suggested for a friend of mine in addition to special assistance which is booked for Heathrow but a bad past experience of Omniserve for a different reason doesn't inspire confidence. |

Here is the link I found - its the bit that says
aira.io/free-access "3. Locations – free to use while in a growing number of locations like Walgreens, AT&T stores, airports, and federal buildings." that is of interest to my friend. I think they are going to contact Heathrow airport to see what they say. She found out about it from a BA phone agent when she was booking her special assistance for her trip they mentioned that it was available which was interesting. If I find out any more from her I will let you know. |

This is the reply she has had from Heathrow
The service is free to use throughout all terminals. Aira have been instructed to advise passengers that they will not be able to use their mobile phones as they proceed through security and immigration. The Aira agent will direct the customer to an assistance agent or passenger ambassador to get escorted or directed through the security and immigration process She is going to contact AIRA to find out a bit more about how use the free service when at the terminal. I hope that helps. |
