The takeaways near where I live are usually busy enough that you have to wait and you can see the food being prepared.

There are huge numbers of restaurants that cook food to order!
All the chippys we use cook the fish to order; we see them putting it in the fryer after we order; we don’t use chippys who have fish already cooked & sitting in a cabinet. Similarly, the pizza places we use; we see them picking up the dough mound & spinning/stretching it into a base, putting on ingredients & sliding it in & out of the oven. Yes, we would say these are better quality than others but not posh or high-end. Many other restaurants, as said above, have open kitchens where the food being cooked can be seen. Perhaps you’re confused; not realising that many decent restaurants prep for service? They’ll have a good idea of likely customer/order levels based on day of the week, previous trends, occasions etc and wash, chop, prepare, fillet, season ingredients etc thus having them ready to be cooked when an order comes in. |
