Yes, me too, and check around the headboard. Easy way to.do it is with sellotape wrapped sticky side out around your hand. Check any small black dots you collect carefully.

Plus check mattress for blood spots. Although those can be old. Years ago had a problem with these. The bites were vile, little marching tracks of three. Everything was treated including suitcases. No reoccurrence or trip home with me. This was years and years ago in a residential training centre. High turnover and international travellers.

I keep my suitcase on the luggage rack, that is what it is there for !

Opting out of mousekeeping makes zero difference. Bed bugs are no indication of the cleanliness of the place.

You can treat to prevent by essentially sealing matresses etc but not full proof. It is also expensive.

Don't put your bags on carpets or beds when arriving. Check beds first.

Goodness, I am itching like biily -o. Never think to check and always just dump the suitcases on the floor. We must have been lucky in 40yrs of travel to Florida and have stayed in some less than savoury places! Will try and be more careful in future.
