Judy
Saw this today, and was so heart broken, my favourite childhood movie was Wizard of Oz, and I will never feel the same about it ever again knowing how dreadfully treated young Judy was during filming! So awful. Was a great film, and Renee Zellweger did a fantastic job portraying Judy, even singing the iconic songs herself. There were glimpses of Bridget Jones at times, but will overlook that! A great film, although very sad.

Well we went last night - small intimate Curzon (even served cocktails and boy we needed a martini !)
What a strong performance - she was 100% Judy - we really believed it was her at times. And the lad playing Mickey Rooney even looked like him ! Apart from the creepy film exec scene in the shed I loved every single second - but cried buckets at the end - we all left in silence and like another poster said it was like leaving a funeral . I want to go an see it again - it is made for the big screen this one. |

I agree about the end. We went in a big group and we all day there in silence for a few minutes when it ended. The whole cinema did!
I didn't really know her story but it was sad, very well portrayed by Renee did a really good job of portraying her.

Go - you will love it but be prepared for raw emotions - the 2 gay characters talk about how they were apart for a while (I will say no more ) was a stark reminder of how grim life was for gay men in the 60’s too - but their scenes with Judy were uplifting (not sure how accurate to reality they were tho ... )

The Wizard of Oz is my daughters (she's 24) favourite film. I thought this film might be a nice night out for us but I don't want to taint her love of the Wizard of Oz... maybe we'll do something else.

It’s a difficult one but we are all aware now how film executives abused their position and controlled their stars back in the day - I guess this film really doesn’t sugar coat life back then so It’s very in your face - but she will see the film eventually and to be honest it has made me love Judy performance in it even more now as I understand what an awful childhood he had - she really was a star ⭐️

Thank you, I suppose you're right... she will see it eventually and she is an adult now but she has such lovely memories of watching the film over and over as a child. It's a bit like me not wanting to tell her that the teddy that she still treasures is not the original one (a whole different story).
