Flying into Miami..hotels inbetween?
We are flying into Miami - how long is the drive to Orlando? We don't land til 8pm in the evening, considering either a hotel stop in Miami or inbetween there and Orlando. Anyone experience of the drive? Anyone stopped inbetween the 2? Tips welcome please.

Last year we drove up to West Palm Beach, supposedly an hour up the road but the traffic out of Miami was very busy but that was around 6pm if I remember right. This time were staying at a hotel just around the corner and driving up first thing, as I imagine we'll all be up very early being on UK time. We're booked into comfort suites Miami airport north, which we got pretty cheap at around £60 sleeps 5 and has good reviews, but there are plenty to chose from.

Pretty much doing the same but instead staying at the Hyatt Miami, think was £70 with a crappy breakfast included. Will get and go and hopefully be in the park in time for our first ADR.

If you're arriving at 8pm, you'll be lucky to be out of the car rental centre by 10pm, which would be 3am UK time.
We arrived at a similar time a few years back, and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Doral, about 10 mins drive from the car rental centre. Had a few hours sleep (due to time differences) and drove up early in the morning with no traffic at all. I'd definitely do it this way again. |

We're doing the same but land a bit earlier than you & opted for a night at the Hilton Miami & driving up the next day so we're all a bit more refreshed after a long flight & will stop half way for a light lunch before getting to our Disney hotel.

We land at 7pm, and have booked a hotel 5 minutes from the car-hire centre.

We're having a couple of nights in Miami at Grand Beach Hotel. Then on return were staying in the Airport Sheraton the night before.
Depending on the route and traffic it's around 3 1/2hrs to 4hrs drive

We stayed the night at the Best Western Plus Miami Airport West Inn & Suites - about 10 minutes drive and easy to do. Great hotel with breakfast and parking.
We drove up the US27 the next morning early and it was easy access to it. A good road and more interesting than the freeway.

We stayed in the Hilton at West Palm Beach. We decided to stay for a couple of nights and enjoy the beach (let DH relax and unwind from work before hitting Disney) and it was great. The hotel was really cheap, yet it was perfectly fine, the pool area was always empty and the beach deserted! We ate at the hotel but also drove around the area, visited IHOP and a couple of other restaurants and visited Publix. I'm really pleased we did this and didn't rush straight up to Disney. It split the journey up, was more enjoyable and relaxed, and we had a little beach trip.
We landed at 6pm and it was very busy at immigration bug we were out with our car at 7.30pm - I would not have driven any further than WPB as DH really struggled and I didn't expect him to at all. Fort Lauderdale (or any other point along the coast) is a good option too. |
