DD has had an email for going back to Chichester in September and they are planning to resume on time. They said they are planning on doing as much teaching as they can face to face. They are also currently working on providing more teaching spaces so they can meet the new requirements on class sizes. DD is studying Musical Theatre so the majority of her classes are practical so it's given her hope their will be some normality when she returns. I was worried as she will be sharing a house from August with 4 others all doing the same course. It was bad enough to find her room at home to have dance lessons warning neighbours that she had a singing lesson. Imagine living next to them
They are already planning next year, they have had online auditions for a showcase they do for the new 1st years and she was chosen to take part. So I'm hoping they get to perform it in some form as she should of been playing "Velma" in Chicago in May and was gutted when it was cancelled.

I’m so pleased your DD’s course is resuming on time and that classes will go ahead. I can imagine that her course would be impossible to teach online.
I do feel for her neighbours Hopefully the house has good double glazing 😂 Although I love musical theatre so I would probably enjoy listening to a free show as they rehearse next door Such a shame Chicago was cancelled for her, it must have been so disappointing after preparing for it. I do hope that they can reschedule some sort of performance for them. Good luck to her for the new term xx |

I think all of us here can understand how you feel. We were the same last year xx
It becomes very real as the summer term comes and you start to buy the things they need ready for moving and the results come out. I think most of us found the moving in day emotional 😢 I hope you can find some tips and advice by wading through this thread (there is some good advice in here amongst all the chatter 😂 ) and the process goes well for your DD and for you. Please ask here if you need any advice or support and we will help out if we can xx I can’t remember anyone on here who has a child at UCL, I think a couple looked at it though so maybe I’m wrong and there is another UCL student here. Good luck to your DD, what is she hoping to study? Edited at 08:57 AM. |

Ive found the Universities seem to be very good at updates on twitter. Also if you check there website they normally gave a section for new applicants.

Certainly is a roller coaster - I found that I was worse than my daughter leading up to moving in day.
It is a strange feeling and you do feel like your right arm has been taken away. Once they are settled, it is great and I was lucky that my daughter settled quickly and made some great friends. The nicest thing is to see them happy to go back to uni after coming home for a bit. It has been a bit of a roller coaster couple of months with Covid and an abrupt end to their 1st year. My daughter is looking forward to being back with her friends and uni when she can. I am sure your DD will be fine and you will be too, but it will feel strange for you for a while. |

Georgia sat her end of year test today online, it’s not counted towards her final mark for the year but she feels it went well. Her grade for the year will be given towards the end of July but she feels it’s been a good first year and she’s done well. She was particularly pleased to get a first on her last essay which was completed at home so without very much guidance from her lecturers/tutor.
Naturally she’s disappointed at missing a lot of field trips and the last few months in the city. She’s a little bored at home, but realises there’s not much she can do about it so is keeping busy with her hobbies etc. She’s also been in touch with her letting agents for next year to arrange to pick up keys on 1 July. We are hoping that we can travel to Bristol from Wales by then to pick up the keys as they would like 2 of the tenants to pick the keys up to check the itinerary etc and we are one of the closest so we would go with one of Georgia’s new flatmates as well. She’s also informed the local council of exemption for council tax and they are in the process of arranging their broadband deal with Virgin. They will then notify the water company of change of tenancy date, and finally sort out an electricity provider (no gas). We have found reasonably priced specialised student contacts insurance with Endsleigh. I think they seem to have it all covered. Can anyone think of anything else? They also have to buy a kettle, microwave and toaster between them for their kitchen. It’s been a strange first year, and the beginning of their second year is going to be challenging but I’m very proud of how Georgia, and all our student children, have coped. Edited at 04:58 PM. |
