I was a dreadfully fussy eater in my teenage years, it was only when I met Nick, he introduced me to so many wonderful dishes and now I try everything and love nearly everything...….. it was only by trying these things, I found out what I really like.

When we went with one of those couples the other day, he had a huge plate of whitebait as a starter, he never once said to his wife, would you like one... I sat there in amazement.

Yep we tend to taste each others' food when eating out, more so tasters than sharers as when we order we all have quite different favourites.

No - what I order I want. I neither want or need to taste others food and they certainly wont be able to taste mine. I guess it’s like marmite you either love sharing or like me find it abhorrent (I love marmite tho ... ) even as family eg if my sister has something she likes she suggests maybe I order it next time as I would enjoy it but we dont offer or taste from each other’s plates - ever. Like OP said its an alien concept to us

Isn't it funny though, this week when we went out with one of the couples, I asked the non sharer to taste my Cocktail and he did, but his wife sat there and kept it to herself...

It could be something crazy like he knows she doesn't like fish, or whitebait in particular.

It's exactly what would happen when we eat out. My son won't offer me any calamari, my daughter won't offer me a mussel and my partner would not offer me a scallop.

They're not being rude, they know that as I'm a vegetarian, I wouldn't eat any of those things.

Nope, both couples have made it plain time and time again, they do not share, their dish is their dish.

Yet as said before, when I offer if they would like a taste they certainly become sharers then, but never return the favour, which to be honest I don't really care about, unless its something really yummy. x

We often go out with friends and if someone has something different it’s usual to taste and share . Normal for most people

I do because I never finish a meal and always share with dh, I actually don't want to try his, I'm usually go for something I really want anyway, now dh on the other hand won't share a morsel of his dinner.

I always say the day they gave the sharing talk at school he must have been absent.
