Funny story. They arrived one day way back in the mid 60's and my Uncle said to me go in the car boot as there is a pheasant in there I knocked over driving through Nottingham County
So as a 10 year old I went to his car, opened the boot to be faced with an angry pheasant who lunged at me, jumped out of the car and ran off down the road. Where he ended up in a Cardiff suburb I never did find out.

However my next task was to spend half an hour cleaning pheasant poo out of his boot.

Finally Spam. My Wife wont have it in the house.
It certainly was the case (and maybe still be the case) that when deer gets hit by a car the Local pubs would be offering it out and I recall some schools friends parents hanging them in their garage until was well hung and ready to eat (quite common around the High Dyke area ) - my Grandpa once grabbed a pheasant by its tail in our garden and we had it later that week then I became a veggie for 30 odd years - I wonder why lol

I have just watched the making of Spam on YouTube ( yes I need to get out more ) It does not contain mechanically recovered pork
But there is plenty of food that does
