New veg gardener - anyone any experience of growing butternut squash?

Never grown veg and fruit before and having a great time this summer. So far had tons of raspberries, blackberries, some blueberries, a cucumber, a courgette and plenty of lettuce from seeds/plants that were already here or I found in the shed. I tried planting some sprouting spuds and harvested them yesterday😉

I’ve got tomatoes ripening from plants given to me by a neighbour and a jungle of butternut squash from seeds of one we ate!

Does anyone know what to do now? Internet is a bit contradicting, some flowers have baby ones on but some don’t, I have thinned them out a bit but not sure when they will ripen and if I should feed or anything - thanks😉

i am in the same position. If all the flowers grow into squashes we could feed the street for a year

I would pinch out the ends of all the shoots now leaving just 2 squash on each plant.

You could feed with whatever you have to hand.

The year is turning pretty fast but there may be time for them to grow and ripen depending on where you are and what the weather does.

It's been a pretty bad year on my veg patch for courgettes and squash. Still there's always next year!
