GAP Insurance

I’m taking out a three year personal lease on a new car. Should I get GAP insurance or is it unnecessary?

It is like all insurance - great and well worth it if you ever need it. But if you dont, it isnt worth it. But you dont know.
I took a third party gap insurance when my OH got her X1. The company went bust after about 18 months (we got a proportion of the money back).

I had Gap insurance when i bought my car from new. I never used it but would definatley have it again, especially with the amount of cars thst get pinched/stripped at the moment.

For a new car, in the first year is it not normal for the insurance to replace with new car in the case of a write off ?

We got it from a 3rd party when we bought an expensive car. Said car was written off so we got back what we paid. So glad we did it as we got about £8000 more than we would have

If anybody does want it then go with a 3rd party not the Dealer. Another thing they get commission on.

Monstrous difference in price.

Have just got a new car from Honda they wanted over £300 but it is half that with a third party.

They also offered bodywork protection for around the same price but I'm researching ceramic coating for around the same.

Spot on. I work in motor insurance and all our policies offer a new replacement car in the first 12 months.

The policies are sold in the trade for pounds and sold at a ridiculous margin! Take Tom’s advise and shop around
