Looking back now we did have some good fun the majority of the day. I was just being very grumpy last night.
Bit I am still all for taking down the Christmas stuff today.

My eldest moaned that my Xmas dinner was so nice and why can’t I cook like that all the time ! I was dreading the day but it turned out ok , I go to my mums and cook there . We actually all ended up with tears of laughter as we were trying to play guess that tune on a kazoo - who knew kazoo playing was so hard !

Exactly .
Christmas is as complicated or chilled as you want it to be . We too had a lovely day, lots of good food , good company, some nice presents and rounded off with Call the Midwife and Mary Poppins returns .
Even when my son was small I’ve always done the big roast/nice presents approach and boggled at the stressing that goes on.

Oh that sounds rotten. I hope you feel better soon and that you haven't shared the bug as well as the love with all your family.

Congratulations on your new grandson. Am sure your daughter and her wife really appreciated all the effort you went to.

We’ve had a lovely day. 15 family members at my brothers house. Total lovely chaos. Presents everywhere. Lots of food. Silly quiz on YouTube. Just a perfect day.

Last time I had to cook at my house I just ordered the lot from Morrison’s and put it in the oven. It doesn’t need to be an overly complicated meal. I just love having everyone together.

I say every year we aren’t going to go over on the presents and we aren’t going to go mad with Christmas dinner.

And what did we do? Both those.

I find it difficult when people visit us rather than us to to them as we are sort of waiting around to host and I just wanna be in my pjs really.

Started off great. Kids stockings, presents but it got a bit much as I had bought too many things as usual. Find it difficult to make sure everything is cleaned away and they don’t have everything everywhere or we will lose stuff.
Kids uncle came round and played with them for 2 hours while I tried to cook.
The dinner didn’t go well and I think this is where it all started. Both kids had tantrums etc, I feel more like a maid hoovering and making cuppas.
After dinner was great we played games although the kids got a bit cross cos they couldn’t do it.
Then aunt, nan and Grandad came for 2 hours. Some reason their nan seemed a bit sour with me but no idea why.
Then it was just more tantrums for the majority of the evening by my eldest.

I feel like I put too much on this one day to be so great and when it doesn’t turn out like that I get grumpy.

I need to next year
• limit presents
• make Sunday dinner plus pigs in blankets-nothing else
You’ve hit the nail on the head right there , what we learnt over the years is it’s far too much for children these days . They get completely overwhelmed by it all , the build up the excitement . They get overtired by the constant activities at school in the run up and then bam thrown into a room with a pile of presents where they just don’t know what to look at first . They don’t actually look at what they’ve got until days after.
Scale it back as you say , play some quiet games with them and they will relax more . A colouring book and pencils work a treat while you are cooking or a dvd as a present . Kids want time with families and really don’t need loads of pressies ( look at the box present list from floridatilly , that little face sums up Christmas for me ) .
Don’t beat yourself up either , we’ve all been there but you learn the hard way. I’ve lost count how many presents ended up on eBay that never got played with.
I hope you Have a lovely Boxing Day with your girls and take it easy x

No and yes. No because we had such a lovely day yesterday - nieces and nephews were great fun, food was good, no drama and everyone liked their presents. Yes because today is pre-travel day! Off to Orlando tomorrow
