I’m not running 5K, but I did 5.92K today including the 5 min walks. I never thought I’d be able to run for 30mins without stopping so I’m so pleased.
For everyone who’s in the early stages, just keep the faith, listen to your body and don’t be hard on yourself!
Brilliant, well done. I’m running 25 minutes now, which I also thought I’d never do. That was on Monday after a break of around 10 days with no exercise. Didn’t manage to the gym today, but hopefully back to it on Friday. Life just gets in the way sometimes doesn’t it?

Just seen my next week.

Run 1: brisk 5-minute warm-up walk, then 5 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, 5 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, 5 minutes running.
Run 2: brisk 5-minute warm-up walk, then 8 minutes running, 5 minutes walking, 8 minutes running.
Run 3: brisk 5-minute warm-up walk, then 20 minutes running, with no walking.

Run 3 is a shock

You will rock it! Did you get your tunes sorted? A good playlist makes a run so much easier, for me anyway.

I had a mad 10 minutes last week and signed up for the Richmond marathon. It’s a 5.5 hour time limit, when my last half was 2.57. So a lot of work is needed before September, as well as some shedding of pounds!

You'll be fine! Don't start off too quickly, and if you start feeling tired during the 20 minutes, just slow down - I find that slowing down always makes me feel much better and helps me run for longer!

Yes thanks, though just been using spotify "run" ones. Need to sort out my own I think. At the moment I'm still running on the treadmill. Not sure my knees can cope with outdoors.

Good luck in the marathon.

Thank you. I will try and remember that.

I too was amazed when I did my first 30 min run. I haven't been able to go for a few weeks & the first time back it was hard so I only did 5 mins run 2 mins walk etc but the following day I went and it was like I had never been away it was so easy to slip back into 30 mins - great feeling isnt it

That’s where I should be. I did run one then got totally floored by a virus so haven’t ran for 10 days now. Still can’t climb the stairs without coughing my guts up so god knows when I can run again. Whenever it happens I aim to do run 1 with the 5 minute blocks again and see how it goes.

I cant run outside as little knees dont like it, so I know my runs will always be at the gym, where I am off to now while you still sit & sit ...
