There are quite a few hotels just off the M6 at Haydock. There is an Ibis Styles just 2 minutes off the junction on the A580 with a Travelodge across the road from it. There is also a Holiday Inn and a Mecure right off the motorway junction.

There's a Premier Inn a couple of hundred yards past the Holiday Inn with a pub next door.

Unfortunately I don’t think Premier Inn accept dogs. I just had a look at the Ibis at Garstang/ Preston and it looks like they accept dogs there. It would only be a few minutes off the M6 and I’m sure convenient. Going to Manchester area would be a bit of a detour and Preston would be roughly half way for you.

The Ibis Styles in Haydock definitely accepts dogs. There is a pub next to it that is very popular for food, a Starbucks across the road and it is next to the cricket club if you need somewhere to give the dog a walk.

The Lancaster house hotel is lovely and dog friendly. Just off junction 33 of the m6 at Lancaster south. Not sure if that will be too soon for you but we drove from loch ewe home ( to Lancaster) last week and it was 7 and a half hours. We were ready to stop.
