Haven’t hired a car for years but considering it for next years trip. What do you have to do these days in terms of driving license etc? Any top tips?

All you basically need is a current and valid driving licence. Some hire companies charge a premium if you're under 25.

Andy at DFCH comes highly recommended on here. Used by scores of Dibbers including us six times in the last 3 years - seven if you count last April's cancellation but he allowed us to transfer the booking.

You don't need an International Driver's Permit (if your d/l is in English) nor a code from the DVLA. If you still have the old style paper D/L you can use that as well but you will be required to carry your passport with you for ID purposes whilst driving.

PS Alamo through Andy is usually best for us and at most Florida airports you can check in on line, print a bar code and go straight to the garage and pick your own car. Slightly different at SFB.

You also need a credit card for the person who is driving the car.

Or with Alamo at least a CC or a debit card so long as it has the Visa or Mastercard logo.
