Florida 2019 - Tell Me This Isn't The Last Time - Day 03 MK and California Grill

The index is here.

Monday 29th July 2019

The plan today is to go to MK until early afternoon as we have FPs for all of the Mountains, then chill in the afternoon as we have an ADR at California Grill to watch the fireworks in the evening.

Another beautiful day and we can’t get enough of the view

DW bought me a Tim Tracker t-shirt so decided today was the day

Breakfast was in the lounge and the buffet was very good; lots of cereal, breads, pastries, cheeses, meat, yoghurts etc.

We always had a bit of everything, I normally had a big bowl of yoghurt and fruit then bread and cheese; mind you the peanut butter was lovely as DD1 had it every morning on a bagel

Before we left each morning, we topped up on coffee for the bus and filled up our water bottles with ice cold water. What we soon realised is that people on DDP use snack credits for breakfast or that first coffee; as we had Club we didn’t need to do that and you’ll read later that we had a lot of snack credits left over.

We walked down to the bus stops and caught the bus to MK; it was a bonus as we did not realise that it drops you near the main entrance rather than the TTC. Always love that first view of the castle and is something we always looked forward to seeing

It wasn’t EMH at MK, but as you can see from the photos, the park wasn’t overly busy when we go there

DD1 bought some Minnie ears in the Emporium then we headed to Liberty Square for rope drop. First off was Haunted Mansion which looked beautiful in the morning sun

DD1 looks thoroughly amused! From there onto Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for our first FP; it was a walk on so we went through standby then again with our FP

Next up was Splash Mountain for our second FP where we said a quick hello to Geoff

I love this photo as about 5 seconds later, both of the caps from the guys in front of us flew off; I did try and catch them but missed both

None us have had a Dole Whip before, so we walked to Aloha Isle for one. Another new thing ticked off the list; we shared a Dole Whip, Pineapple Float, Pineapple Cake and Pineapple. 4 snack credits or $30 (£24.79).

Then onto Pirates of the Caribbean which believe it or not, we’ve never done before and we all really enjoyed it

Seems we all look interested in what’s going on From there we walked across to the People Mover which is a family favourite, on the way stopping for a Mickey pretzel (1 snack credit or $6.56 (£5.45)) and a photo at the purple wall.

We love the People Mover and the majority of the time there is no wait, it’s just nice to sit down for 10 mins and watch the park go by; it did give me the opportunity to see how Tron is getting on.

Next up was Space Mountain for our last FP

Next was another first, the Carousel of Progress which we all really like and more importantly another song stuck in your head for the rest of your life . Lunch was next and Cosmic Rays was the choice as Tomorrow Land Terrace was closed. Cosmic Rays was packed, there were people stood waiting over every table for people to finish; DDs waited whilst we got the food. We used the app to order and was served very quickly, so I’d recommend using the app where you can especially at busy periods.

DDs had nugget meals, DW had the burger meal and I had the hot dog with chilli and cheese; all of us had fountain drinks. The food was good for fast food and always there is plenty of fries. 4 QS credits were used otherwise it would have cost $62 (£51.59).

We decided to go back to Beach Club and chill but Main Street Philharmonic were playing, so we listened to them for a bit.

On the way out, DD2 picked up some pins at the Emporium and DD1 bought a T-Shirt. She saw a lovely yellow retro T-shirt but nowhere had her size, they were all either XS or XXL. The mission of the holiday hereon was to search every store to find it….you’ll have to read on to see if we found one!

Back at the hotel, DDs went for a swim but myself and DW went and had a look around Yacht Club. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, got ready and ordered a Lyft to the Contemporary ($7 (£5.97)) rather than use Disney transport.

I think we all scrubbed up nicely

For those on DDP, California Grill is a 2-credit restaurant; we looked at the menu beforehand and decided that DD1 wouldn’t have something too expensive so chose to pay for her therefore used 6 TS credits rather than 8. The main selling point for us was watching the fireworks from the roof.

We arrived slightly early, so went to the shop, which gave DD1 an opportunity to try on another pair of ears.

We checked in and was escorted to the special lift that only goes to the restaurant we asked for a window table but the wait time was long so we had a booth. The view of MK is great.

We had bread and oil to start.

For our mains, DD1 has bison pepperoni pizza, DW and I had oak fired filet beef and DD2 had Kansas strip steak

I think DD2 steak was slightly overcooked for her so we swapped and I have to say that both were delicious. DD1 said the pizza was lovely and all of the steaks were tender and juicy.

We all know how much Disney (and pretty much every restaurant in Orlando) like to turn up the aircon in the summer, but the restaurant was almost Baltic cold; DD2 suffers from Raynaud’s and she was in tears because her legs were so cold. We brought jumpers and cardigans, however our server came over and asked if everything was ok; when we said she was cold, she came back with some heavy table cloths to cover her legs. We’d recommend that you wear trousers or long skirts and bring jumpers or cardigans as it was very cold.

The weather turned rainy and there was lightning in the distance so the fireworks were delayed by about 30 mins. The server did say she would hold our desserts until the fireworks had finished, but as they were delayed, she brought them out. I really liked this as you didn’t feel rushed to eat before the fireworks. We ordered two warm chocolate cakes and a lemon meringue cannolo; DW isn’t that fussed on desserts and as we were paying for DD1, DD1 had her dessert.

That being said DD1 was wearing her 16th birthday badge and the server came out with birthday cake

The birthday badge got many free desserts over the course of the holiday We the got the call that the fireworks were about to start (started at 2133), those who didn’t have a window seat made their way to the terrace. The view of the fireworks was amazing, the music was piped into the speakers on the terrace and it gave you a completely different take on them

The fireworks were amazing and when you’re in MK, you don’t realise how far behind the castle they go off from. After the fireworks finished we grabbed the bill; we used 6 TS credits and paid for DD1’s meal and another beer; the cost was $320.88 (£265.19) $80.72 was the tip and the extras so DDP saved us $240.16 (£198.48)

We order a Lyft ($10 (£8.26)) and went back to Beach Club. It was another lovely day, we got to do the rides we love and had a superb meal at California Grill; we’d recommend it thoroughly especially for the fireworks…. providing you bring warm clothing

DDP
• Snack Credits – 35 start – 5 = 30 left (behind by 6)
• QS Credits – 16 start – 4 = 12 left (on track)
• TS Credits – 16 start – 6 = 10 left (on track for the plan)
• Daily Saving $338.72 (£280.31)
• Total Saving $656.42 (£542.87)

Tomorrow is AK where we have FPs for Dinosaur, Expedition Everest and Flight of Passage. We really want to go to Satu’li Canteen for lunch and have a reservation at Teppen Edo for dinner. Day 4 can be found here.

I hate it when they turn the air-con too cold, it can make it miserable ☹️ lovely meal though and perfect end to the day 👍
