Uni Parties what would you do?

Party in my dds halls last night, she was at her school friends flat and came back at 1am to a stranger letting her in! There was over 20 people in the kitchen and five were from her flat, she went to her room and it quietened down 45 minutes later. I hate to be a party pooper but it’s not on, probably Southampton uni will go into lockdown Soon, I will report it if it happens again because I don’t want my dd to get Covid. She hasn’t got on that great with her flat mates but has friends from school and on her course. Why are these kids so entitled that the rules don’t apply to them! I understand they like a party and in normal circumstances I would be telling dd to join in but not now. Would you report them?

She is an adult now and its up to her to report it if she feels the need otherwise, under law its classed as hearsay. If you report it it may mean the relationship between her and her flatmates breaks down further and you dont want that if she is lockdown down with them ?
I guess its all down to growing up however hard that may be she is cutting her wings now - best thing you can do is offer her advice so she can decide for herself what she may do ...

Its against the rules, everyone would be at parties if it’s allowed. My dd would love to be at a party, she had four people around for her 18th birthday because of Covid. She gets on with flat mates but not really made great friends, there are fines in place and strict instructions no parties allowed. I don’t understand It’s hearsay when it actually happend! She won’t report them but I will.

I predict it will go the same way as Newcastle uni, here now 700 are in quarantine in their rooms as they have tested positive.
So sorry I would report if I were you.

Its hearsay as you have no direct knowledge of the party happening. You have the word of someone else that it happened. I'm not questioning that it happened only that your knowledge of it is from a third party.

I understand you anger. My middle one is in halls and has ended up being the only person in his flat. That started as a negative but quickly became a positive.

My only question would be your decision to inform only if it happens again.

Oh I see what Hearsay means now, I’m letting it go but don’t really know what to do if it happens again. Dd won’t report them even tho she’s not happy! Just seen there are four cases of Covid in Southampton uni which will soon spread no doubt.

I understand it’s only hearsay but if it were my son/daughter possibly being exposed to Covid I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from reporting it!

I wouldn’t report it tbh. It’s up to those that are there to do so.

I'm not sure how this is 'hearsay' if she actually saw around 20 people and only 5 were from the actual halls. I would be inclined to give the uni a call on Monday morning, and although they might not have the evidence on this occasion it will at least make them aware of the situation to carry out checks (they have security working around the clock).

They meant it’s hearsay because it would be coming from Sandra&Co who was told by her daughter - not being reported by her daughter who was actually there!
But, I agree, I’d be calling the university so at least they’re aware
