Unless he actually wants to wear two rings I would just use the existing ring during the wedding ceremony.

Matching rings really aren’t “a thing”.
My husband wears his grandfather and then his father’s ring , my wedding ring isn’t a traditional band at all. I think if his existing ring is fine with him , then go with that. Have you asked him what he thinks yet ? |

My DH has his wedding ring on his left hand and then a ring on the opposite hand which he got for our one year anniversary.
