Carpal tunnel
Is it supposed to burn?
I thought I’d sprained my wrist ages ago but apparently not! Anyway, it’s intensely painful and every now and then I have the added pleasure of the sensation of hot oil being poured over the inside of my wrist. I am just about on top of not yelping now when it happens 😫 I feel like I’m damaging my other wrist now seeing as I’m currently one handed. 😬 Edited at 10:10 PM. |

Yep I'd describe it as a red hot poker being shot up my wrists
Corrective surgery instant relief for me Is it possible for you to pay privately for treatment as it's one of the many many non life threatening things that have gone to the bottom of the list It's not life threatening but severely life limiting for many many Especially if you use a computer, work in the catering industry even nurses as yourveffected had(s) can be useless at times Edited at 10:30 PM. |

I make cakes! It’s challenging to say the least
How long did it take before it was decided surgery was appropriate. I’m still at the point where ‘it must just go away’ It doesn’t feel like that right now. I honestly am so surprised how much it hurts! I can’t even drive my own car at the mo as it’s a manual. I’m using OH’s and he hates mine 😬

Before I specialist as a Dementia care nurse I worked as an orthopaedic nurse
Sorry but in women it rarely goes away again it might be hormone / age related Even if it goes away there is no guarantee it won’t come back You can be looking at a carousel of months of it’s gone and then overnight it’s back for months |

I’ve had it twice, it will only go away if you stop doing the thing that’s causing it. So if it’s your job then it won’t go away 😕

It’s really hard to get the surgery done on the nhs now so if you can afford to go private I would look into it.They finally agreed to do mine after about 2 years and that was after trying wrist supports physio and the injections none of which helped and Nerve conduction tests showed iI had nerve compression in the wrist & elbow. It got so bad my hands were constantly numb/pins&needles. They did one side them I had to wait another year to get the other side done
The long wait has left me with permanent nerve damage causing reduced feeling in my finger tips and I have scar pain/weakened grip from the surgery but those were risks I was told of prior to having it done. |

Thank you all!
I’m googling costs now 😳 There’s general pain with movement at certain angles now (initially I couldn’t even dress myself!) but the weakness and inability to use it sometimes is a very odd feeling.

I have had surgery on both wrists luckily on the NHS, the relief was instant and I am able to continue with life as normal, my grip is not as good now. If you can afford to have the surgery privately then go for it.

I suffered for many years , finally when i was kept awake at night with numb hands doctors then recommended steroid injections, which i had but made no difference.
I then had nerve tests which showed just how bad they had become, from there i was put forward to have my right hand done as this was the worse of the two, 6 months later i had the left hand operated on, the relief was instant, only wish I had ,had it done sooner as it never goes away but defiantly gets worse over time. I was told by the surgeon that Carpel Tunnel operations would be taken off the NHS list of ops, this was 2018/19, so they may not be available on NHS now? Good luck , hope you manage to get the op one way or another.
