Just returned from Orlando and went to Lake Apopka after seeing this thread. I would like to say a huge thank you, we had an absolutely brilliant time and would highly recommend to anyone who has a car whilst in Orlando.

Apopka comes from Seminole word Ahapopka for "Potato eating place"

Another thumbs up. We have done this and the one on Merritt Island and certainly we saw more on Lake apopka. Also liked mount Dora. But Merritt Island is good too, plus you can head to the beach and Canaveral isn't far. Also the manatee observation point is fab.

Just Arrived back and would like to thank all those who recommended this. Wild life everywhere, Ospreys gators too many bird species to mention. Great couple of hours spent there.
