Places to eat Cardiff

Hi,

I'm going to Cardiff for a couple of nights with my sister the week before Xmas (14th & 15th). We'll be eating out both nights but aware the 15th is a Friday so there are likely to be some work xmas meals going in the town centre & very aware Cardiff is a bit of a party city but we are too old for that these days 🤣

Can anyone suggest anywhere decent to eat maybe a little way out of the centre where it maybe a little quieter. We'll be driving & not too fussy food wise.

Thanks

I’m following!
DS lives in Cardiff and whilst we love the place, it’s wild on a weekend night (in a good way!) and we’ve only ever eaten in chain restaurants there. Curious to know where else is good and maybe a little quieter!
We really like Mowgli but we could do with a change.
I do love Flight Club, crazy golf and all the bars etc but calmer is often nice too!

If your driving- go to Penarth- we live close- lots of lovely independents- Can recommend- custom house, Keyif, Courts, Bar 44, and Courts all in Penarth. We have our works do on the 15th at the Royal Welsh college, the week before were at flight club in Cardiff for my dance night out.

I live in Sully and can recommend the sully inn, captains wife and the newly opened 1988 Indian which are all in Sully.

You also goodsheds in Barry which has some nice eateries- if there's anything on you could also try the small space- Jasper puts on really good shows there.

I eat out in Cardiff regularly- asador 44 is nice ( same people as Bar 44 in Penarth) le monde (same people as custom house) or Madeira. We ate out at Gaucho last week- eye wateringly expensive- 236 for 2 people, and although the food was good it wasn't that good. Six by Nico is lovely and is good value for money. Maison de bouef in Castle arcade can highly recommend.

Purple poppadom on Cowbridge road- haven't eaten here for a while but was always nice.

Outskirts of cardiff- Porro in Llandaff is a lovely Italian, and you also have the heathcock in llandaff too, that is stunning food.

Loads of choice! Enjoy!
