Suitcases here or there?
Hi, we are a family of two adults and a 4 year old. We are thinking of taking our clothes in two large cases but are debating taking a smaller case with us to give us room for the extras that we will undoubtably buy while we are there or buying one whilst we are there when we know how much space we will need.
Has anyone done this before and how the do the prices compare to UK prices? |

I always have one case inside another unless you can get a coupon or
a sale luggage can be expensive |

We think the suitcases are expensive out there - and think it's because the stores know tourists always need an extra case for coming back

We'd thought about replacing our old cabin bag out there as it's seen better days. However even in the likes of Walmart and Target they didn't seem any cheaper than we can get in the UK.
Like Helen though we always take two medium cases nested inside two large cases. As we always fly PE we always need the extra two coming home - mainly for B&BW stuff Mick

We usually put a soft sided bag inside one of our cases. When we've done road trips around the west coast it's useful to use as a dirty washing bag, and then you've also got the extra bag to put the stuff you've bought out there.
What I also tend to do is to take some clothes with me that I'm intending to throw away - for instance underwear/pyjamas that I'll be getting rid of. Wear them over there an then throw them away - that creates a little bit of extra room |

We always pack one suitcase and then put it in a larger suitcase when we go over, we once had to buy a suitcase whilst in NY, never made that mistake again, it was not cheap despite being from JC penneys and having coupons taken off!

If you already have a case that you can bring for your shopping, I would just bring that. No point in buying a new one and with the exchange rate being as it is, I doubt you would get good value.
We did buy a case out there in February as we bought too much, it was about $200 - $250 and was the hard shell Mickey case. Unfortunately Disney bell services wrecked it the next time we used it on our next trip when we transferred hotels. |

We have bought cases before from T J Maxx, can’t quite remember the prices but we always thought they were a good price. Much cheaper than the suitcase shops like in the outlets etc.

That's what I always do as I usually travel World Traveller Plus so allowed two cases. And when we took our grandson his clothes went in one of our cases so we had even more allowance to use on the way back.

Unless you can find a bargain off the beaten track, cases are usually expensive there, Outlets especially.
We always take a large hold-all laid flat in a large case, but could take another smaller case inside one if needed (hold-all takes up less initial weight), depends on volume/weight needed for return really. |
