Am I right in thinking there is a monthly fee for a Halifax clarity? I had a quick look on my break ?

There are a few credit cards that do not charge foreign transaction fees;

See this article;

moneysavingexpert/cr...-credit-cards/

We use Santander Zero and Post office Credit Cards abroad.

Not sure if the Santander Zero card is still available

Another vote for the Halifax clarity card, DH and I both have one just in case anything happens to one of them (i.e, stolen, cloned etc) no monthly fee for ours.

Am I right in thinking there was a recent thread regarding Halifax Clarity whereby T&C have now been changed so charges are now due?

There was a thread but I think it referred to cash withdrawals. If using it transactions I believe there is no fee

We use a little of everything.

Originally we used FairFx but more recently we started using a mix of Fairfx + Starling Bank for our every day spends and Curve to make any transaction we want to use our credit card for.

I have a Post Office credit card which has fee free foreign currency transactions, a Revolut card and our Nationwide Flexplus account allows fee free foreign currency cash withdrawals so I use a mixture.
