Firstly would recommend doing Shanghai first then Tokyo.
So long as you are flying into Shanghai from another county presuming UK & then would be flying direct from Shanghai to Tokyo and if you just plan on staying within Shanghai province & your not after going to say Beijing too I would advise you to just apply for the 144hour transit visa on arrival in Shanghai. Would save you a lot of money & time as you wouldn’t have to go to an embassy to apply for the visa before.

Hi, Thanks for the reply...Why do you recommend Shanghai first?
To be honest I’m just a bit nervous about the transit visa... what happens if you get delayed through no fault of your own...like if the flight to Tokyo is delayed. We thought about doing 3 days in the park and 2 sight seeing so it would be tight time wise?
