Whilst this is probably true ,I know people have had issues with some other airlines being less than helpful for invisible disabilities x

Really ?
We travel with my adult son who has invisible disabilities, so long as we’ve arranged assistance in advance we’ve had no issues booking it at all over the years Which airlines are you referring to ? Personally we’ve never experienced this but would be good to know which ones don’t follow the expected SOP (probably).
Of course there can be a difference between what an airline rep says will happen and what happens on the day too. Allow lots of extra time in case it isn’t as smooth as you hope (not a slam at BA at all , just experience of lots of transatlantic flights with my son and also experience of working at Heathrow ... special assistance can be patchy for a variety of reasons regardless of airline)

BA have always been able to arrange assistance but in the last few weeks they have set up a department to deal purely with Special Assistance. It is UK based (Newcastle) and some members of staff have personal experience of what is needed.

BA Special Assistance Telephone Number - Freephone 0800 408 1100

Of course, they are often reliant on the service providers at the airports as well and they can be external companies under contract (Heathrow is a classic example) so things can and do go wrong.

I do like BA special assistance and find them better than Virgin on the whole.
