Good use of Tesco/avios points?
Ok, so I don’t actually have avios yet but I’m thinking of converting Tesco vouchers to them which could pay for car rental through Avis (phew, it’s complicated😂 with an additional £40.
Not sure if this is the best use but I’m looking for ways to use loyalty points towards our holiday, to save a bit of money here or there. I still need to buy park tickets, airport parking, travel insurance (which I’ll book today anyway), possibly airport lounge at Glasgow? Actually, I’ve only paid for flights/hotel! If anyone has a better idea to use them, I’d love to hear it😀 |

I've had my Tesco points automatically converted to Avios Miles (and previously Airmiles) for many years now. My wife & I have had 2 free Orlando flights each in the past with Airmiles completely paying for them but it's not as good since they became Avios Miles - the long haul flights are not as attractive now that taxes & surcharges are not covered by miles. The last time I investigated the best use (2015) I decided to use the Avios Miles towards theme park tickets - this option is not advertised on their website so I had to phone. At that time 10,000 miles saved £50 off the ticket price. They don't use the cheapest ticket supplier but I was still able to save £1400 on park tickets which, at that time was 4 adult Disney and 2 adult Universal 14 day tickets. It worked out as the best option at that time. Happy hunting.

I’ve used mine for booking APH car park, and Chef and Brewer pub near the airport, and I’ve just booked a hotel in Manchester through Hotels.com
Don’t know if that helps or not ? |

It’s not technically the “best” use in terms of value/£ but if you don’t have anything else to spend them on and it saves you paying out real money then yes it’s worth it
I’ve used Avios to get our car hire through Avis. Combination of points and money and they were the cheapest I could find I have an Amex and do reward for thoughtse rewards to collect points although did convert some Tesco points too Head for points is a good website to look at for advice Will use what’s left to get the airport parking. FYI it’s 1000pts for £5 off Edited at 10:03 PM. |

Appreciate the replies folks. I think rob from head for points would be aghast at me even thinking of using them this way, so I’m probably going to hold onto them until I’ve got a better use😂
I’d prefer to use them for something I need rather than fritter away on ‘extras’ like dining out, so I’ll check out the airport parking option. Thanks again everyone😀 |
