On the go digital storage.

Just wondered if there are any relatively inexpensive devices for storing digital data from camera and camcorder SD cards each day on the go. This would then allow me to clear the SD card for next days' usage. Think I'm after a direct device from camera or its SD card.

I don't want to take my laptop.

Thanks

hmmmm good question...

if its a micro sim - you could stick it in your phone and use the free wifi to upload pics to a "cloud" each evening...

or perhaps a device that can connect camera to phone to do the same job...

other than that I can only think of portable hard drives you would probably need a laptop to move files.

Unless you camera has built in wifi...

Thanks PM.

I'll have a good look.

Just been thinking about maybe upgrading to a digital camcorder and how best to get storage done.

My cameras and phone can do video and with my old mini disc camcorder maybe I don't need to complicate things.

Boys toys and all that.

Thanks

TC

I have been looking at a ravpower file hub as I already have a 1TB usb drive to use. Verbatim do something similar also.

Would just need to remember the micro to sd converter card.

Something like this would be useful.

You can just put the SD card straight in and it copies everything over to the internal memory. Not quite as cheap as the other options, but it doesn't require any additional storage to be plugged in, and is pretty "one step". Plug in, press the button and it copies.

Personally I do just go the tablet route - and hook everything up to the tablet and use it to copy things over, but it depends on whether your storage and SD card reader work with the tablet whether that's a possibility.

I find that when on hol if I need to do something like this (or work - a quote or something) I could faff for ages on my phone or one of the kids ipads - but if I have my laptop with all my files on it - click click click - job done in a quarter of the time,

so I just stick my laptop in my case and stick it in the safe - but know its there if I really really need it!

then moving all these files can be done first thing in the am when I'm in the shower or last thing at night when I'm in bed - just click and cut and paste and then forget about it rather than some untested tech and a load of faffing!

Thanks folks.

I'm either going to:

1)stick to what I've got i.e. phone, 2 cameras with video, and a mini disc camcorder. I actually downloaded a phone video to One Drive via wifi and it was quite OK, although it had the bars either side of the video. Maybe turn the phone in future. I have 2 new 32GB cards for the cameras so hopefully can get a bit of footage on them too, as well as mainly photos.

or

2) Bits of the above and buy a SD card camcorder with the laptop taken so I can save the video of the day.

Thanks again.
