Bombay Sapphire Distillery

We visited the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke Mill yesterday. I thoroughly recommend it on a nice day.

I don't have time for an in depth report but here are some of the photos from the visit.

The entrance along the river Test.

The ticket hall and entrance.

The buildings date back hundreds of years.

They have crafted new greenhouses that go down into the river Test. A chalk river that is the clearest water I have ever seen. It claims to be the purest river in the UK. You could clearly see the trout swimming in it.

There is a history room with how the Gin came into fashion over the centuries. All very interesting to read.

The greenhouses are there to show you the different botanicals used in the Gin.

They use the waste heat from the stills to heat the greenhouses. In fact they are very self sufficient by burning the used botanicals left over from the processing. Along with hydro power from the river to light the facility.

There is a botanical smelling room where you sample the different aromas and punch a card to work out what cocktail you would prefer at the end of the tour.

You cannot photograph during the tour of the stills but you can take photos though the windows of the two production stills being used.

After the tour you can go into the Mill bar to choose your included cocktail.

The Laverstoke (Summer Edition) Bombay Sapphire, Elderflower Cordial, Martini Rosato Vermouth, Fever Tree Ginger Ale with Lime wedges and a slice of ginger.

As I was driving I had a non alcoholic Space Time Continuum. Fresh raspberries with orange and pomegranate juice with a sprig of thyme.

Of course there is a nice shop there...

If you have had a non alcoholic cocktail they will give you a small bottle of Bombay Sapphire and a bottle of Fever Tree tonic to take home.

All in all a good day out and great value at £15 each including that all important cocktail.

That looks like a nice day out, reminds me of Jordan’s mill near me although that’s cereal
not Gin!

We were actually in there for 3 hours. They say 1.5 hours normally. But if you read all the info and stop and enjoy the place you can easily stay as long as we did.

I'm not a gin drinker - more a whisky man - but my husband would love this. It's amazing how many "botanicals" go into the making of a gin.
Thanks for reporting this. Sounds like a good idea for a day out.

It is about 10-15 minutes from me... I've passed it a couple of times, but never visited. 😲
