Macarons are a bit of a faff (Waitrose tv on YouTube have a good recipe with all the steps)

Or a selection of old fashioned tarts... coconut, butter (raisins), curd tarts, fruit, Bakewell, lemon meringue etc... could make them into fancy tartlets to make them less old fashioned... bero book is good for old recipes...

Macarons are insanely hard. I used to bake a lot and once spent a month baking macarons almost every other day and even after that my success rate is a bit hit and miss and I get the occasional batch with cracked shells! I still bake them every now and again and usually end up thinking that I would be better off just buying macarons... Plus you do need to rest them a bit (depending on recipe) before baking, and most recipes will recommend filling them and leaving them overnight for the flavours to settle. So would definitely not do them for an exam for all of these reasons - too many things to go wrong and too much time needed. They look pretty though!

I'm going to show DD these replies. She definitely needs to have a think about her timings and the level of skill involved in producing perfect macaroons. For some reason her teacher does not get involved with advice on whether something is practical, or even possible to do!
