Any NHS Ward Managers out there?

I have an interview for a Band 7 Midwifery Ward Sister (Secondment) tomorrow. The post went up on Friday, closing date was yesterday so not much time to prepare for it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated x

No advice but it sounds to me like it’s an post for an internal candidate that they have already identified. That is what I would do in this scenario .

One piece of advice whatever trust you are applying for go on the website to see what there values and commitments are. There is always a question about what do you know about our trust and why apply for this post and knowing this a part of any answer helps.

I'd certainly have an interview question on continuity of carer if I was interviewing for b7. I'll try to remember questions I've asked in the past.
Good luck!

Not a ward sister but used to be, biggest challenge in nhs staffing, how will you make your ward a great place to work, happy staff give better care, this also helps to retain staff. They will be looking for you to be able to demonstrate your leadership qualities, have you seen the work on compassionate leadership ? Four actions to improve wellbeing in workplace, mental health education to create a culture where leaders and employees can create a culture to support emotional distress, support fair flexible working , compassionate leadership and creating a culture where people emotionally support each other! Feel free to pm if you want any more help

Wishing you lots of luck. You are in a really positive place as they wouldn't have asked you for an interview if they didn't think you were a candidate.

They will prob ask you about patient/baby safety and positive journeys for them.

They might ask what you would change in the ward and what you can bring to make the pre/post journey for mum/baby and family more positive.

Good luck, I’ve been for about 7 nursing interviews in the last year and a half. The jobs I have been successful in getting have always been when I have had better control over my nerves!
Like others have said try and think about what the trust is focused on! Use all the key words and phrases that are relevant to the place you are going to work. I found a lot on Twitter, eg my new job is advanced nurse practitioner with a team who focus on long term conditions and anticipatory care planning/ prevention of hospital admission. I looked at home first initiatives, health and social care partnership, anything that senior managers were tweeting about and getting involved with (work related obviously &#128522
I imagine there will be a lot about staff management and dealing with difficult and challenging staff members.

Fingers crossed for you
