Amazon have a series by Pamela Brown about The Blue Door Theatre Company set up by a group of children. The first one is called The Swish of the Curtain - ideal for anyone interested in ballet, drama etc.

I probably would have suggested all of the other titles mentioned but will add How to train your dragon, Wizards of Once and A series of unfortunate events to your possible list!

Bob, No Ordinary Cat - it's an adaptation of A Street Cat Named Bob for the younger reader. It's the same story but with some of the "grittier" content taken out.

My dd has just devoured the Wizards of Once series, it’s fantasy genre and she said she really enjoyed the humour

Lots of really good books suggested that our kids used to Really enjoy. Anything by Eva Ibbotson, David Williams, Frank Cotterel Boyce or Lewis Sacher, especially Holes, it’s an excellent book, used to be really popular in our house when the kids were that age.
