Hi thinking of going to Tokyo around Easter time.
Would like to do 4 days Disney.

Which hotels are Disney, plus what benefits are included by staying at one.

Which hotel is the best value?

Regarding tickets, where is best to purchase them?

Is there a fast pass system? If so how does it work?

Any other info regarding doing Tokyo Disney will be gratefully received

Thank you in advance

The TDR Explorer website has everything you need to know about planning a trip to Tokyo Disney Resort: tdrexplorer/

They also have an ebook which I found really useful for planning my trip.

There are 4 Disney hotels in Tokyo, and several Official Partner hotels. The Disney ones are pretty expensive and unlike WDW and DLP, you don't get many benefits - I think the main one is "Happy 15" where you are allowed in the park 15 minutes before opening.

We stayed at the Hilton Tokyo Bay (a partner hotel on the monorail loop) and it was excellent. We purchased our tickets from the ticket desk in the hotel as you are guaranteed entry if staying in a partner hotel. Tokyo Disney reaches capacity more than other Disney parks.

There are fast passes but you can only reserve them once in the park. They have recently introduced digital fast passes on the TDR app but currently that's only in Japanese. They still have the old fashioned FP booths at the ride entrance where you can collect a return time from if you don't have the app.

TDR is an amazing experience and I would love to go back one day. Bear in mind that the crowds can be quite intense, and the Japanese will quite happily queue hours for a ride/show/character. You should aim to get to the parks about an hour before opening if you're hoping to grab a fast pass for a popular ride (such as Soarin' or Toy Story Mania) as they run out pretty quick.

Before booking best to check somewhere like the TDR Explorer website for best times to go as there are certain holidays in Japan you probably want to avoid. We went in early November when it should have been fairly quiet and it was still really busy even mid-week.

Happy planning!

If you are minted then you could stop at the Miracosta hotel, this hotel is actually inside the Disneysea Park; Prices are not for the faint hearted though.

We stopped at the Okura Bay hotel which was opposite the monorail station. You need to pay for the monorail but it does cut down on walking (we purchased a 4 day pass as we were in the park for 4 days).

Fast passes are the same as DLP - paper ones that you scan your tickets. There was talk of using the local app to book fastpasses but that wasnt active/working when we went in July 2019. Crowds can get from busy to insane, we are talking 3 hours queue easily. We were in low-to-normal season and we saw two hour+ queues *constantly* on a few rides! Some rides had 40 min queues but the fastpass issue and return times were within 5-10 minutes - showing that the majority of locals dont use the fastpass system!

Read my trip report for some more info. Highly recommended to go.

Back in 2016 we stayed in the Disneyland Hotel, we had an Alice in Wonderland room and it was absolutely amazing. Staying there gave us the perk of the “Happy 15” tickets allowing us to enter the parks 15 minutes before non onsite guests which came in useful.
We went the last week of May staying for 5 nights which was enough, we then flew to Hong Kong for the rest of our holiday. The longest queue we encountered was Toy Story, think this was about 4 hours not long after park opening, hence we never got to ride it. A must do is Journey to the centre of the earth ride, this is in Disneysea and is fantastic but often attracts large queues but we were able to get fast passes multiple times for it - these were the paper kind.
It’s a fabulous place, we’re hoping to go back next year.

Yes Disney hotels are expensive. The value Disney hotel (Celebration)is a Disney bus ride away and Looks ok. The Ambassador looks wonderful and is also a shuttle bus away. Disneyland and Mira Costa are at the parks. There is also a new hotel being built but that is a few years off finishing. The Partner hotels are on the monorail loop as mentioned. They are official hotels and as mentioned has guaranteed access. They have Disney shops in them and you can buy your tickets there. The monorail has to charge due to Japanese law. If you stay at Disneyland or Mira Costa you get a pass to ride the monorail free. That is why there is no railway around the parks. Only straight tracks.
Yes TDR Explorer is a great choice. He is excellent.

We stayed at the Hilton Tokyo bay which is an official partner and right next to the monorail. It was perfect and we had a themed family room too. I’m pretty sure we also used Hilton honours points for at least part of our stay.
