5 Things to Know Before Visiting Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Some things to know before visiting Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in WDW.

1. You will not find any merchandise in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge that say "Galaxy's Edge". If you want Pins, T-Shirts, etc, that say "Galaxy's Edge" on them, then you will find these in the regular merchandise outlets in the park outside of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

2. Character Meet & Greets are different in Galaxy's Edge than the rest of the park. There are no set meet and greet locations, the characters roam through the land and interact with the guests as they pass by. The characters do usually appear in the same areas though, so If you are looking for Rey or Chewbacca keep an eye out near the Rise of the Resistance Encampment. Vi Moradi usually makes an appearance around the Black Spire Outpost but you have to be quick as she is usually running or hiding.

3. Cast members in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge stay in character and it's a good idea to learn some of the language before visiting Batuu, the local language is Batuuese.

Instead of saying "Good Day" say "Bright Suns", "Good Evening" becomes "Rising Moons". If you want to say "Goodbye then say "Till the Spire". Restrooms are known as "Refreshers" and water fountains as "Hydrators". If you are asked a question and you are unsure of the answer then just say "Only the ancients know", simply translated for "I don't know". Oh and the Dollar is called "Credits".

4. When going to ride Smugglers Run at a point just before you ride you will be given a coloured card, indicated on the card will be your position that you will take in the cockpit, it will either be Pilot, Gunner or Engineer. After you are given the card you are moved to a holding area, whilst in this holding area get to know the others in your group (they will have the same colour card as you) and if you want to try and swap/barter your cards for a different position you can.

5. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is full of hidden gems and easter eggs, for example as a nod to George Luca's Indiana Jones films you can catch a glimpse of the "Ark of the Covenant" in Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, it's on the upper ring peeking out from behind a box.
On top of Docking Bay 7 restaurant you will find a Sienar-Chall Utilipede-Transport ship, the ship has 3 crates marked with the numbers 77, 80 and 83. If you are a star wars fan you may recognise these as the years the original star wars films were released. 1977 A New Hope (Star Wars), 1980 The Empire Strikes Back, 1983 Return of the Jedi.

  1. The cargo ship above the Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo has three containers, each one has a different number on it, 77, 80, 83 — which represents the year each film from the original trilogy was released.
  2. Hondo Ohnaka, the pirate who gives you your mission on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, is a character who appears in the cartoon series Clone Wars and Rebels.
  3. Ronto Roasters has a podracer engine "cooking meat" (a nod to the podracing scene from Phantom Menace)
  4. The droid working the grill is the same type of droid that is seen torturing another droid (by burning its feet) in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi.
  5. There are some subtle droid marks on the ground across from the upcoming Rise of the Resistance ride and they actually belong to R2-D2. In fact, they’re made from a mold of R2-D2’s actual feet used in A New Hope.
  6. The Toydarian Toymaker shop sign is a nod to Watto from Phantom Menace.
  7. A wooden Stormtrooper doll that sits in the shop is an exact replica of the one a young Jyn Erso had in Rogue One. The Imagineers actually made a digital scan of the doll used in the movie to make a perfect replica.
  8. A toy replica of Jabba the Hutt's sail barge from Return of the Jedi sits on one of the shelves as well (with Naboo N-1 fighters in the background and a Jawa Sandcrawler to side).
  9. One of the coolest hidden gems in the shop are the marionettes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader from their final dual in A New Hope. The marionettes are created as a way for people to tell the "legendary story of the Padawan who killed his Master" to future generations.
  10. There is even a Solo Easter egg, outside the shop is a toy version of Han Solo's Mobquet M-68 landspeeder.
  11. The Creature Stall allows you to buy exotic pets seen in films and cartoon series, like wampas, tauntauns, banthas, porgs, and Kowakian monkey-lizards.
  12. Inside the Droid Depot all are sorts of nods to droids seen in the movies, like an Imperial enforcer droid (like K-2SO from Rogue One) and the head of a battle droid from the prequels.
  13. There is even an Imperial probe droid hidden within the junk behind the Depot.
  14. Dok-Ondar is a character that is first mentioned in by Qi’ra in Solo.
  15. Hidden among Dok-Ondar's collection is a golden statue head of Jar Jar Binks (maybe it's a subtle nod to "false idols"?).
  16. There is also A Medal of Bravery, like the ones we saw Luke and Han receive at the end of A New Hope.
  17. Mounted taxidermy heads of creatures including a tauntaun and a nexu (from Attack of the Clones).
  18. A Darth Maul statue and a Mandalorian helmet (maybe this will tie into the upcoming Mandalorian TV series?).
  19. There's even a taxidermy wampa, that looks like he is ready to eat you!
  20. It's easy to miss, but you can spot the black spire that gives Black Spire Outpost its name outside Dok-Ondar's shop, too.
  21. Inside the Cantina, there's an image of Ponda Baba's arm on the side of this tank above the bar. Obi-Wan famously cut off Ponda's arm in that iconic Cantina scene from A New Hope.
  22. And you can see a Worrt (the frog-like creature outside Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi) above the bar, in a tank of "Jabba's Juice."
  23. Also keep your eye out for all the cool drink names and handles on the taps! "Yub Nub" is, of course the "Ewok Celebration" song at the end of Return of the Jedi, so the name is appropriately carved into the end of an Ewok spear.
  24. And finally, there's a hidden Mickey on the side of the building across from Ronto Roasters.
