Celebrating Retirement Tour October 2019 - Day Four - Coronado
Breakfast in the hotel much busier this morning but the staff were dealing with it amazingly efficiently. I would definitely recommend the Best Western Plus Bayside Inn and would stay here again 👍
Today's plan was to head to Coronado on the ferry so wandered down to the harbour side again. It was much busier here today as a massive cruise ship the Holland America Line Oosterdam was in port, making for a lovely atmosphere. Caught the 11 am ferry for the 15 minute trip to Coronado, with stunning views of the San Diego skyline and the Midway. Coronado is such a pretty place. Had a wander round the touristy shops then headed off for the 1 1/2 mile walk to the Hotel Coronado, stopping at the Coronado Brewing Co on the way for some liquid refreshment 🍺🍷 On the way down Orange Street we came across a fire/police open day and it was really interesting walking round and chatting, especially to the hunky police officers 👮 Sat on the beach at Coronado drinking an eye wateringly expensive couple of beers but it would have been rude not to. The beach here is absolutely stunning. Had a wander round the inside of the hotel, but to be honest it didn't do it for me, far too dark and old fashioned. Decided that we liked the look of the menu at the Coronado Brewing Co so headed back there for something to eat. It was only 4.30 pm but the place was rammed, always a good sign. We only ended up waiting 20 minutes for a table. The food was delicious. I had beer battered fish tacos and Brian had cajun shrimp tacos followed by creme brulee and ice cream cake. Bill came to $75 including tip. We both said it would be worth getting the ferry over to Coronado again just to eat here 👍😁 We caught the 6.30 ferry back over to San Diego, just as the sun was setting so it was a truly magical end to another perfect day. |

I’m loving reading about your time in San Diego. I visited only for the day this summer but instantly fell in love with the place, I will most certainly come back and stay longer next time.
I too felt the Hotel Del Coronado was ridiculously dark inside, nothing like what I thought it would be judging from the exterior |
