Staying Onsite: Hire Car or Lyft/Uber
Staying at POFQ in October. Car Hire coming in around £500 with $266 to park at the resort.
Will probably have days at the malls/Outlets and trip to Universal etc. Trying to decide if Car Hire will be worth it as a nice to have |

there are certainly perks to having a car - and absolute pains...
first trip we had kid and pram and offsite and parking was free then so was glad we did. Last 2 trips have been onsite and totally disney centric - had a car for a week but wish id just Lyft'd.. I guess it reeeeaaaallllyyy depends on your group dynamic and and how many trips out vs the cost of those.

well, I like to be free, so for me, I'm not doing the US (not just FL) without a car
I think it has become more and more of an habit as we no longer stay onsite at disney's (even though staying onsite at universal for weeks on end also adds up when it comes to parking fees) I will agree that you can get a uber/lyft within minutes to almost anywhere, at a fraction of the cost but, there are a few things that will always have me love my car better first of all, I can go whenever I want to, I don't have to wait, or deal with change of plans (sure you can do that with uber, but it's not as "simple" as simply clicking your turn signal and turning your steering wheel) I don't have to wait, I know the condition of my car (even though most uber/lyft will be nice cars well maintained) I mean, I have picked my car at alamo's at mco, so that's what I want to drive, and a car I'm comfortable in (disability has its requirements too) but, one quite important aspect is ... chatty drivers ... man I hate that. And you never know what kind of driver you'll get. I don't like chatty drivers, and on the same front, we feel less comfortable talking about things as a family, when a stranger is inches away from us ... and man, sorry if that's gross, but if I want to let go of a loud fart, I'd rather be in my own car, IYSWIM so, I guess that's comfort driven, but we hire a car, and we don't even price how much we would save by not getting a car. I'm sure we would save a lot, but that's irrelevant to us, as a family, because this is one of the things we won't compromise upon for us, it's not about cost, if it were about cost, we wouldn't go to a destination where everything is twice the price in the first place ... getting a car is something that we factor in, in our budget, we try to get it as cheap as possible, of course, but it's integral part of our planning because we know we NEED it, even though we know it's perfectly possible to do without one, and there are alternative means ... but we're stubborn, and we'll rent Edited at 07:58 AM. |
