I see my post has been removed. It was in response to another post and wasn't intended to be disrespectful. On topic I think this is a great idea and hopefully helps those who need it able to travel with less worries and thanks to the OP for highlighting this as I was not aware of it.

Don't think the question about where to get them has been answered. We didn't go through our airline. There is a special assistance area at Manchester and we just went in there and gave our flight number, no questions asked whatsoever. I actually got them for both my children as even though ds has more 'official' disabilities, it's actually dd who struggles more in an airport environment. Being able to get her away from the crowds was a great help. We were also asked whether we wanted to board first or last.

Sunflower lanyards are available at Sainsburys who ran a sucessful trial in one of their stores and are now extending it to more. If you google 'Sainsbury sunflower lanyard' you will get a list of all the stores that now have them. They just look like the ones the airlines give out.

Very good info. Found the list. Sadly Sainsbury's chose to randomize the list. Alphabetical would have been nice. Anyway, my local store is not listed.

You used to be able to but they may have stopped this as so many people were ordering.

I emailed them and got the following response.

If you would like a lanyard it can be collected on the day of travel, our special assistance desks are located on the 3rd floor opposite Caffe Nero in the South terminal & Zone H on the 2nd floor in the North terminal.

Also if you think you would benefit from an escort to assist through the security process, we are happy to arrange this, but will need your date and time of travel, flight no and passengers name, you will also still need to inform your airline that assistance will be required.

OK I'm guessing its stopped then.

Heathrow however you can still order:

heathrow/airport-gui...n-disabilities

You could order one through them and lie about your flight I guess? Not a great way to do it I know but at least it would mean you get one in advance if you are worried?
