Suicidal teen fined for causing public nuisance on motorway bridge contemplating jumping

What the heck is all this about ?

A young lady has lost her mum, Gran and uncle in a short space of time
She is having desperate mental health troubles , and finds herself a top a motorway bridge looking down , not for the first time. Life is too much to take for her

So what's the answer - coach her down, arrest her, charge her, convict her and fine her for causing a public nuisance by causing traffic delays and using police time

I thought we were supposed to be learning more about mental health and being more understanding ? Well that's not quite reached the judicial system just yet
I hope and prey she comes out of her difficulties the right end rather than the wrong end

The word heartless doesn’t even come close. I hope those who call the shots never hit rock bottom and what a way forward in removing the stigma of mental health...you’re a public nuisance, here’s a fine.

I read this and I was completely lost for words. There is no public interest in a prosecution like this.

The difficulty is from memory it’s a strict liability offence, meaning there’s no requirement to prove any intention (which could have been lacking due to her mental health) - so basically the only defence is “it wasn’t me”. So from the point of view of those advising the young lady, it has to be a guilty plea.

Whoever made the decision to bring that case should hang their head in shame. I also think the Magistrates should have sent a message in their sentence that it wasn’t in the public interest, rather than rebuking her, fining her and hammering her with a 12 month community order.

God love her, the poor girl. As if she hasn’t already been through enough. Have these people absolutely no compassion at all?!?😡

I am also lost for words, where has the compassion gone. I only hope and pray she gets the support that she needs and deserves x

Unbelievable that she’s not been shown compassion given support
But some heinous crimes it’s a slap n the wrist and off you go to do it again
Every life is a precious gift and we should all have compassion for those who feel they just can’t see the end of that long long lonely dark
Tunnel
Too many of our young people who desperately need support are slipping through the net
We can all do something say something listen to something
Stand by to pick up the pieces if need be

Inconvenience to motorists?

One would like to believe the general public would prefer to be a little late than a wee lassie lose her life.

Bloody jobsworths.

A young girl jumped into the M1 near me only a few months ago, it was truly horrible and sad.
I think this girl needs intensive help, not dragging before a court. In fact it seems odd that this could happen, and I do wonder if there is more to the story.
