Anyone done Rome from Civitavecchia on the train?
Just booked a very last minute NCL cruise!
Just looking at the port excursions which are as usual crazy prices! Left it a bit late for any shares, I did look on CC! Just found there is a train from the port to Rome? Anyone done it? We are docked from 7am to 6pm? Dh is worried about the reliability of the Italian networks! I just don't want to pay €100pp for a coach! 🤔 Thank you 😁

As above, very straightforward and I'm a worrier. We made sure we were on the train before last just in case. Fabulous day.

We did this too but it is a few years ago. It was very easy. Didn’t have much time in Rome because I was so worried about missing the sailing. We went on the open top bus, visited Trevi fountain and ate the worlds most expensive ice cream and headed back to port. Can’t remember cost but I know it was cheap. We had no problems with the train and got back with plenty of time.

Thank you for your replies 😁
How far is it from where the shuttle bus drops off to the station? Is it walkable? I've read its hard to get taxis for short distances at the port?

We used Cruising Excursions a few weeks ago for a trip to Rome from Civitavecchia. I would certainly recommend them.

We have done it several times. Last time we disembarked in Civitavecchia and got the train to Rome and we walked from the port with all of our luggage and it was fine. I would say it’s a 20 minute walk. It’s all very straightforward.

From the port gates to the train station is an easy 15 minute stroll, probably less. Walk straight along the seafront, keeping the sea to your right and you can’t miss it.
In our experience the trains are reliable but I would never risk catching the last train back to the ship.

Thank you all! Going to train it I think! Will go early and come back early just incase. I guess as a last resort we could get a taxi back! It would still be cheaper than the tours! 😂
